Frequently Asked Questions
Section 1: Product Basics
What is ShoeGuard?
ShoeGuard is a protective basketball overshoe designed to be worn over your basketball shoe while walking through parking lots, hallways, gyms, and other dusty areas before play.
Inside, ShoeGuard holds your shoe securely, while the bottom grip-prep layer helps remove dust from your outsole before you step on court.
Is ShoeGuard a shoe or a shoe cover?
ShoeGuard is not a basketball shoe. It is a protective overshoe that goes over your basketball shoe before you play.
Think of it as a court-entry system: it helps protect your shoes and prep your outsole before game time.
Who is ShoeGuard made for?
ShoeGuard is designed for serious indoor basketball players, including high school players, AAU players, college players, trainers, and anyone who cares about traction and shoe protection.
Section 2: Traction + Performance
Does ShoeGuard improve traction?
ShoeGuard is designed to help remove dust from the outsole of your basketball shoe before you play. Cleaner outsoles generally help players feel more prepared when stepping onto the court.
Formal traction testing is currently in progress, and future results will be shared once available.
Does ShoeGuard replace wiping my shoes?
Not necessarily. ShoeGuard is meant to reduce dust buildup before you step on court. Players may still wipe their shoes during games depending on court conditions, shoe outsole material, and dust levels.
How is ShoeGuard different from slides?
Slides protect your shoes from the ground, but they require switching footwear before play. ShoeGuard lets your basketball shoe stay on your foot while adding protection around it.
ShoeGuard is also designed with a bottom grip-prep layer that helps remove dust from your shoe outsole as you walk.
How is ShoeGuard different from a sticky mat?
Sticky mats usually stay in one place. ShoeGuard moves with you.
Instead of stepping on a fixed mat before entering the court, ShoeGuard helps clean your outsole while you walk toward the court.
Section 3: Fit + Sizing
How do I choose my ShoeGuard size?
Choose the ShoeGuard size that most closely matches your basketball shoe size. If your basketball shoes are bulky or wide, consider sizing up.
For the first production run, available sizes are:
8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13.5
What if I am between sizes?
If you are between sizes, we generally recommend sizing up, especially if your basketball shoes have a thick sole, wide base, or bulky upper.
Will ShoeGuard fit all basketball shoes?
ShoeGuard is designed to fit most standard basketball shoes, but fit may vary depending on the shoe’s shape, width, outsole thickness, and upper height.
Very bulky shoes may require sizing up.
Can I wear ShoeGuard with non-basketball shoes?
ShoeGuard is designed specifically for basketball shoes. It may fit some other athletic shoes, but basketball use is the main design purpose.
Section 4: Use + Care
Where should I wear ShoeGuard?
ShoeGuard is intended for walking to the court through areas such as:
parking lots, gym hallways, locker rooms, dusty gym zones, and sidelines.
It is not designed for running, jumping, cutting, or playing basketball while wearing it.
Can I play basketball while wearing ShoeGuard?
No. ShoeGuard is not meant to be worn during gameplay. Remove ShoeGuard before playing.
Can ShoeGuard be used outdoors?
Yes, ShoeGuard can be worn while walking outdoors to help protect your basketball shoes before entering the gym. However, avoid rough surfaces, mud, water, or sharp debris when possible.
How do I clean ShoeGuard?
Wipe the outer shell with a damp cloth. Keep the inside free of debris. Avoid soaking the product or exposing the grip-prep layer to unnecessary dirt or liquid.
Section 5: Preorder + Shipping
